Removing old Decals
What is the preferred method to get the old decals off the hood of my 149?
I have tried several concoctions but none seemed too successful. What would happen if I rubbed a little acetone on them? I have seen it take paint off real quick? Sorry I jumped too quick, I think I found my answer in the "Search" feature here. Found it after I posted this, now I don't know how to delete it in its entirely. Dave |
I just remove a set using my heat gun... A commercial strength one.
They peeled right off. The leftover glue is harder.. Acetone took care of it. |

Heat Gun
I use a harbor freight heat gun I picked up on sale for $9.99. Takes the sticker off in a few seconds and you can remove the residual glue with acetone. With a little care there will be no damage to the paint.

Heat gun and gasoline on the glue works for me :beerchug:

Did anyone besides me ever use a heat gun?? :bigthink:
:biggrin2: If you get good at it, the glue will mostly come off with a putty knife while still warm. I keep a new plastic putty knife that I got at Sears just for removing decals. Keeping the paint intact (no gouges) is easier than trying to restore partially scraped paint. |
I too use a harbor freight heat gun with awesome results. Have for 10 years. $10 pays for itself first time with all the time you save peeling and/or repainting.
I've also used a sharp razor blade scraper with success when paint doesn't matter but wear gloves and BE CAREFUL as they can slip. |
I also use a heat gun , & then some solvent ,
I guess there is no smoking around Sam's place !:bigthink: |
A plane old hair drier set on hi also works,
