Hydraulic lift issues on 1250

Hey guys!

It's been a long time since I last posted, but I've put the 1250 through the runner on everything since (tilled my garden with it, mowed my 1+ acre with it all summer, plowed with it all last winter, and leveled my driveway with the back blade). I just threw the tiller back on to till under my garden for the winter and I noticed that not every time I pull back on the lift lever (mine broke off and it's actually a pair of needle vice grips as the lever) it won't always raise the attachment.

So I took another pair of vice grips and at the hydraulic valve, I lifted up the lever from there and it lifted no issues. So luckily, it seems like with some tweaking this is an easy fix.

Is there a way to adjust the movement of the lift lever? And since I'm using vice grips, maybe this is a good time to replace it with something better while adjusting things...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Just a guess, But you might check the "valve handle lever (part #4 in the exploded view).

I believe the 1250's have a bolt that "clamps" the lever to the handle, the lever may be slipping on the handle.

Something is odd here............The 1250 NEVER came from the factory with a Hydraulic Lift. It was strictly "armstrong". Now, has a hydraulic lift been added to this 1250 or do you have something other than a 1250...???

Just curious..... why does it list it on the parts list? Along with front remote outlets. Did they just use the same parts list for all the Quietlines? :bigthink:

Quite frankly, I don't know, All I can say for sure is that my parts manual (1250 specific) shows all three types of lift, manual, electric and hydraulic.

As I have said many times before, it's impossible to know what changes po's have made over the years.

From the 1975 Quietline Sales Brochure.......As a note.....I did NOT realize, that the 1250 could have been fitted with a Hydraulic lift as an option.

This would be the problem. Had the same issue on my 1450.

After several attempts to tighten the bolt on the #4 Lever, I welded a collar w/ set screw provision to the #4 Lever and ground a flat spot into the Hydro Lift Lever......Problem Solved. Hopefully you can just tighten that bolt. BTW, that bolt should be Grade 5 or stronger if you are replacing it.

My grandmother has a Cub 109 (with 109 hood stickers) that has a 10 hp engine, a ported pump, and a hydraulic lift. It's been in the family since it was 2ish years old and I'm pretty sure that's how it came from the factory as an option, but not 100% sure.

Edit: Not trying to change the subject, just commenting :D
