K301A rings, bevels, top and bottom?
I'm putting my Kohler back together. I have one silvery sided compression ring, and one all dull black. Each ring has a bevel on one inner edge. Does the silver, or black ring go on top? And do the bevels both face up, both down, away from eachother, or towards?
I searched for the answer myself for almost an hour, and to my amazement, there wasn't a consensus out there. Thanks for any help, Alex. |
The chrome ring goes on top, black ring in the middle. Bevel faces up.
|
But the instructions say the second ring bevel goes down.....
So much conflicting info out there. |

I have a motor torn down, factory original. The rings are as I stated. Besides, I'm pretty sure that the way I stated is correct. And, the rings on the motor I have torn down confirm what I thought. |
You have two options.
If you have OEM Kohler rings, then either FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS in the package or FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS in the Service Manual. If you have non-Kohler rings.......... FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS in the package. |
I have non Kohler rings, but the instructions aren't clear, that's the problem. If they were clear, and I didn't find conflicting info online, I wouldn't have asked. My instructions show 4 possible ring combinations, and the set I got is equal to none of them.

OK..I realize some companies print real poor instructions....BTDT.
How about posting the instructions (pics) that were supplied. |

Very close to this. Only difference is, mine doesn't have any of the writing, and in ring set 2 on my paper the top ring has a bevel, as in set 1. My oil ring is 3 piece, as in 3 and 4. |
So, are you saying that you have no installation instructions that came with your ring set...??
What is the Brand Name and Part Number of the set you bought...?? |
Nono, my instructions are almost identical to the ones at that link. They are without any writing (unlike the linked one), and set two is slightly different between my paper and the one at the link i posted.
