Rear turf tires
Anyone know were to get the correct turf tires for a 147 and are there any better options that look alike
|
Are you wanting ones that look like the original Goodyears?

I'm not sure what you mean by "look alike," but as far as the style of turf tires that originally came on the 147, they are NLA. I looked quite a bit because I liked that tread pattern, but never did see anything close.
In the end, I went with some BKT LG's I found on ePay. The tread is very similar to the high-end Carlisle Multi Trac CS. They are in fact even heavier, being 8-ply rear and 6-ply front. BKT's are typically OEM tires for new Kubota tractors. If your heart gets set on the original look, I suppose you could cruise ebay until a decent used set turns up. I thought about it, but didn't want to outfit a fresh restore with 40+ year old tires. Fresh rubber is good! :beerchug: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...1&d=1374759416 http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...1&d=1360957532 http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/a...1&d=1374759372 |
Saturn V is correct. And I agree. I understand not wanting to put old tires on a "new" tractor. But I understand wanting an original look. Unfortunately, you are going to have to choose. Look at millertire.com they have a Carlisle all terrain that looks to be somewhat aggressive, but not so much it couldn't be used on the lawn. IMHO, you can't go wrong with lugs :biggrin2::biggrin2:

Yeah, I'm disappointed that this tread pattern is gone as well, as it is one of my favorite designs. I found this tire on Millertire-- http://www.millertire.com/products/l...ld-trax-2-ply/ that looked as close as I could find for the originals.

I like ags but I don't plow and I move snow and mow the most...so the next tires I get are going to be turfs....likely these. Miller is a great tire place to buy from.

There is a thread in the Restoration section about a kind of tire "paint". I haven't tried it myself but it might do the trick for you if you find some tires that are in ok condition.

I have seen that tire paint used on a o/t tractor, and it looks great,... like a bran new tire almost! I agree, nothing will identify a tractor's era like the original tires! I have hung on to my original tread from these tractors, though I sort of agree with TSV on choosing a new tire for a restoration project.
By all means, if you decide if your old tires are worth keeping, try this tire paint for us! Some of my old turf tires even still have the stickers on them, and are in very good condition. I had a nice set of 23 x 8.50 Firestone gum dipped rear tires I let get away,....:bash2: Don't want to do any more of that! |
