Cab & Blower

I went and picked up my cab and parts snowblower last night. I paid $180 for the Sims cab and a 450 blower. I thought it was a good deal. The cab just has some surface rust, but I plan on stripping it and painting it before I put it on the tractor. The blower has a bad fan, but the skid shoes and shave plate where like new. So new that the skid shoes still got the black powdercoat on the bottoms.

It was actually $180, but you are correct it was definatly one of those right place at the right time deals. It all started because I had this 450 snowblower with a bad fan. I really didn't want to spend the money on a new one, but I figured I would call down to the local Agway powershop and see what their price was on a new one. So I called down there and the guy said it was $159 and he would need to order it. Then he said, hold on I have one of those snowblowers at my house mounted on a parts tractor I got and it's also got a cab on it. If you want both I will make you a killer deal. He told me he got this tractor from his buddy just for the engine and he planned on scrapping the rest. I could tell by the way he talked that he had no interest in the cab for himself. He was just like, yup I got this tractor with a cab on it and after I pull the motor I'm going to scrap it for the money. He also had a Cub 107 just sitting in the weeds next to a tree. I told him I would give him another $30 for that too just so I didn't have to see it sit in the weeds. He said he would, but it wasn't his. He fixed it for somebody like 3 years ago and they never came and got it.

I finally got the cab mounted to the tractor. It took more work than I thought but it turned out looking good. I had to make some filler panels because this cab was meant for a newer style tractor and the weatherstripping wouldn't seal around the hood.

I also cut some diamond plate for the floor to make it look better and fill some of the gaps.

I also decided that I had to give this cab a quick rattle can paint job to cover up all the rust, old white paint and to seal my patch panels. These cabs are so heavy that I wasn't about to take it off the tractor again so I decided to just paint it mounted on the tractor and mask everything off. First I got rid of all the loose paint and rust with the DA and gave it a good wash. Then I masked everything off.

Then came the paint. After a few hours I ended up with this. Not perfect, but it looks much better than the brite white and rust.
