Another QL added to family/collection

Hey all. Added another QL to the family. 1450. Picked her up off craigslist for $200. Came with a modified qa-42 that was cut and converted to fit a wide frame. Missing some parts of the blower but no biggie. I have 3 of them now, one has really bad auger housing and this one is really good. I will decided on what to do with them later. Those are not IH wheel weights. 1" steel plate instead. Motor turns over freely but there is no compression. Thinking a stuck valve or blown head gasket. Person I got it from said they got it from a family friend that said they were mowing with it and heard a weird noise and it died. It has then sat for 2-3 years sense. Went out today it the cold and put a battery in it, changed plug, and added gas. Turns over really good. Then I started smelling gas. Okay a leak in tank or hose maybe. Well the bottom of the plastic tank has cracked and it leaked out all the gas. Note the nice big wet spot at the front of tractor on ground. Going to be pushed to the side of the garage for now and guessing the winter. Garage is packed full of unfinished projects right now and I am not going to start this one until spring, summer or fall. Depends on if the 1250 with blower, the motor makes it through winter. Spring is its eta to get its motor rebuilt. This is the first QL I have owned with HEAD LIGHTS!!! WOOOO.. But the wiring is pretty shabby going to them and couple hood bolts are broken. Nothing special to her. Mower deck, homemade wheel weights, modified snow thrower. Seem to all be there.

Future plans for her is to fix motor problem/s, find a rear lift and tiller for her. No rush.

I guess I have now became a QL collector. I really like them. Really like the 1x8/9's but the QLs seem cheaper around here and more of them. So with that said plans are to have the whole family one way or another. Like to eventually find 2, yes 2, 800s, a 1000, 1250 manual lift (have one with hydro lift) and a 1650 to finish off basic collection. Then eventually try finding the 1450 and 1650 twin sticks. All will have their own purpose. 1- 800 in original form I find it, 800 fully restored top to bottom- front to back, 1000 as back up mower/ yard cart tugger, 1200 (current) mower, 1250 w/ lift (current) blower, 1250 manual lift- back up mower tugger too, 1450 with tiller, 1650 with front end loader. If I find twin sticks ideas will change. Eventually like to get a front chipper, one with a rear plow etc.

Think I am beyond addicted. Of course I will buy any QL and pre QL if it has the right options and for the right price. I look at clist almost daily and always keep my eyes open for a deal.

Take care fellers!!!

I seem to wind up with QLs a lot around here also.

Here are some..

Even got a QL copycat the other day given to me:

Working on an O now. I really like how simple it is compared to the QLs.

I am a big fan of the Quietlines. I have only one tractor, a 1250 that I affectionately call the 1250 Nightmare; and when I get the work on it completed, I would like to have another one. I am fairly sure it will be a Quietline.

You have a very nice collection.

Thanks guys!!! Took it apart today to check head and valves because of no compression.

Well my worst case option was the answer. Piston rod is broken. Piston does not move and wont push down. Was really hoping for a bad head gasket or junk under valve. SOOOOO... Sprayed a bunch of PB Blast on piston, valves and head bolts. Put head back on and snugged up the bolts, put all the bolts in a baggie and marked it. Put an extra 2 quarts of oil in crank case. Pushing it to the side of the garage for now. Not going to tear into it more at this point. Got to get garage cleaned out anyway. I would like to rebuild it now but probably have to wait. No biggie. I have it. That's all I care about any way. I am really hoping my 1250 motor makes it through the winter sense its my blower tractor. It gets rebuilt in spring. Full overhaul. Then I will move on to the 1450 after it gets done.

Take care everyone!!
John
