Hytran or gear lube?

When I got my 122 the oil had leaked out a bad axle shaft seal. I replaced the seal. During the tear down I drained about 2 gallons of water and about a gallon of oil sludge out. Fortunately the water was fresh and no rust or visible damage. I put it all back together, not knowing any better, I filled it with some leftover, new, lower unit gear lube from our boat out drive. I am now wondering if it will be ok for awhile??? I only use it for playing and pulling a yard cart with the kids. Should I be worried about damage??? I have to pull it apart sometime in the near future, it is popping out of reverse when I back my big trailer up the drive. I need to check the shifter fork/gear wear. That would be an opportunity to change the lube. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry to be another seemingly :beatdeadhorse: question. Thank you

I can't imagine you would do any damage to the gear drive using that lube. After all it is only steel gears. As long as the lube you used is compatible with the axle seals you should be allright.

Kelly is right. It's just a gearbox. Hydraulic transmission fluid can be purchased at any parts or farm supply store, and if you ever get another cub with a hydrostat trans, there is really no need to run two different oils. Choice is yours, either is fine.

Thanks for the input!

I would'nt worry about it. That marine lower unit gear lube is some good stuff.
