How often do you find a 86?
 

Folks,
Yesterday I stopped to look at a guys garage. Standing in the door I see a old and new Cub side by side. I ask whats up with the Cubs, He says the old one is for sale. I ask what is was and he says a 86! He said the clutch is stuck from setting in the rain for a couple days a year or so ago. I told him to get a long screwdriver and a hammer. He held the light and I tapped the blade of the screwdriver at the edge of the clutch plate and freed it up. He started the tractor and moved it forward and back. He said it did not jump out of any gears.
This guy bought the tractor new in 1976 from a local IH dealer. Jenks dealer sticker on the hood. Tractor is set up to plow snow, but hasn't done much work since he has a Allis WD and a Ford 5000.
The 86 has front blade, wheel weights, chains. Also mower deck that has some rust that has had steel patches added.
Didnt seem to be charging, pretty normal for these.

He had a price, we haggled and agreed. The deal was done. Now just had to break the news to Cheryl. Second Cub to come home in about 4 months!

Stopped today and did the paper work and picked up the owners manual. Had my daughters boyfriend, Kevin drive it home, about 1/2 mile to our daughters place. They may plow snow with it till spring?
Seemed to run ok. The steering wheel seems to have moved up from the tube?
Engine did not smoke, but some old oil smell in exhaust. Headlights in place and work, nice option.
No three point hitch:(
I do have pictures and may get them loaded tonight.
On a scale of 1 to 10 it is about maybe a 3-4? When I get the pictures loaded Let me know about these.
I am a narrow frame guy.

I have one,they are one of the rarer ones.

This was too close to home to pass up. Its not a need thing, its a want thing.
I had one of these that was whooped a few years back. Grandson Mike sold it:( I liked the way it drove.
Hope to get the pictures downloaded soon.
Seat is toast! Makes the tractor look even rougher!

Congrats on the 86. They are especially easy to work on since the engine is so small. I like the way mine drives as well. Very easy to steer and they are pretty perky and responsive. My first impression was a doggy bulky wide frame.

Around here if the engine in a Cub runs (at all) makes it a 3 or 4... Add that it drives another 1 or 2... headlights, another 1... Plus it's an 86 add 6 for that... Crap, even without pictures you could have yourself a 12 out of 10 without breaking a sweat!
