Finally!! A 582!!
4 Attachment(s)
Well, when I decided (about the time that I joined this forum) that I wanted to increase my cub cadet fleet, I wanted a 582. (Or an 1806) Couldn't seem to find one. Well, actually I've wanted one since I was younger. We had a 782 and a 71 growing up, and I always thought that the 582 (a mix of both tractors) would be cool. So, after buying all I have in the last few months, I splurged again. I paid a little more than I normally do, and it needs some work (surprise, surprise) but I think I can handle it. :biggrin2: Carb issues and some locked up steering components. Overall, I'd rate the tractor about a 6 maybe a 7, on a 1-10 scale. Missing the side panels and needs a seat, or I'd give it an 8. (I'll be needing a set of side panels. Can't stand it!) This is to be my work tractor. Current plans are, deck is coming off, AG's on the back, tri-ribs on the front. Sleeve hitch (for now, Cat 0 later). Fix the motor and run it. A 582 was my "holy grail" tractor because I wanted to build a gear drive "worker", and with that frame I can put ANY engine IH or CC ever used in that frame...... especially a D600/D640 Kubota! :biggrin2::biggrin2: (Just have to find one.) She's a dirty pig, and going to get a bath tomorrow. Shows about 200 hrs on the clock, but I'd say it's really about 800. Doesn't seem to have been well used, just not really well maintained. :bash2: Got a pretty decent 44" deck. That was a bonus! Needs some of the dents beat out of it. Honestly I don't understand what people run into with these things to beat the front edge of the deck in so much. :BangPC: It's an EARLY MTD tractor SN#708091, which makes it an '81. This brings the fleet to 10! :beerchug:

Cool! :beerchug:

I was wondering when we'd get to see pics, nice 582! :beerchug:

That is awesome! Glad you finally got your ideal gt. So along with the smoker and cat 0 up grade, would a hydraulic pump with multiple hydraulics be up for review? Looking forward to seeing what you add to the tractor :beer2:

Thanks guys!
Yes, hydraulics will be added if/when I get a diesel. I don't think my perfectionism will let me add hydraulics till I get a diesel for it. I don't want to go to the trouble of mounting a pump, just to have to change it when I find a diesel. That project is a future one. I have 4 other tractors to complete first. My 682 decided that it is time for a float last night. Found the motor full of gas and the tank empty!!! :bash2: 185 is in the works, and the 1250DS and 1000 are awaiting rebuilding. So, the smoker will have to wait. :BlahBlah: For what it's worth, the 154 is in the shop so I can get it running and sold, and grandad's 71 is waiting for me to blast and paint it. |
Good looking project tractor. I also wonder what people run into to make the bends and dents one usually finds when buying. Sorry I could not be of more help on the one we talked about. Still have not found a town by that name in PA.

Welcome to the 582 club!!!
Sorry no green jacket... |
Thanks Paul! I don't know where that tractor resides either. Oh well, it had some issues, but the price sure was good! I'm happy with this find. Pictures really don't do the tractor justice. The paint is really in good shape for the age. It's 33 years old!!
Thanks Lew! I don't even get a jacket if I have 2 red ones? :bigthink: |
Congrats on the 582, Jonathan!
