Well what started out as a seek and fix mission this morning turned into a big turd of a day.
Seemed my pto was squeaking the other day and thought I would look into it today. Went to start the tractor and the battery was pretty low, didn't turn over very well, so ended up bumping the key. Got a half of a revolution in and heard a "clunk" and heard something hit the floor.
So looked under the tractor and found a chunk of aluminum :bigthink: can't be good. Dug deeper and saw it was the lower ear on the engine where the starter attaches. Seems the PO changed starters at one time or another and never tightened the lower nut, and I never noticed.
I think when I bumped the starter it must have been enough torque to snap the mounting tab. So...... out came the engine. I would like to give the designer of all this engine tin a kick in the butt,, holy smoke, it takes longer to remove all that crap than pull the engine.
Now to see if I can find someone to try and fix it. Think it can be fixed?
Back to the original problem. The bearing is toast, least of my worries now.

is that part of the engine block or just like a side cover or end cover? im sure it could be welded but pretty sure youll have to take it apart farther so it is easier to get at to weld. the easier it is to get at the weld will be much better
just my :TwoCents: :GoodLuck:

Sorry to see that, Todd.

A good professional welder can weld that back on. BTDT.

I'm surprised nobody's said the best solution of all; duct tape! :biggrin2:

Seriously though, sorry to hear about this. I can't image how pi#$@$ of I'd be if that happened to me.

Todd, here is a link to the thread I was telling you about on the PTO. :beerchug:

I was gonna suggest JB weld........:biggrin2:

All kiddin' aside, Todd that s$@ks. Wonder how often that happens. Kinda weird you didn't have any warning other than the clunk/break episode. Woulda thought there might have been an engagement issue or grinding. Hopefully it will be an fairly easy fix for ya. Keep us posted.......:beerchug:

In your pic#5 the cover suppose to rub on the pulley in pic #6? Mine has those same wear marks. Is that basically the pulley brake? To stop the PTO? Did I just answer my own question?....:)

J-Mech 04-30-2014 12:41 PM

Yes it's a brake, and it rubs the clutch, not the pulley.
