2072 replacement engine

IF..you were going to replace the engine in YOUR 2072 what would you use and why? Just wanted to start a debate.....

D600 - D950 Kubota

in a heart beat a 25 command. I'd have to do a little research but I'd be tempted to use a 27 or 30 also.

What about B&S or Kawasaki or Honda?

Any of them will also work! All in what you want and like and how much you want to spend.

What about them? :bigthink:

B&S are typically cheap. The Vangaurds are ok, but not as good as a CH Kohler in my opinion.
Kawasaki, are ok till they break, then they break the bank to fix. Plus, don't seem to make enough power.
Honda..... they make 4 wheelers, motorcycles and cars. Oh sure, they make a good motor, but again..... PARTS.

This is all just my opinion. And you know what they say about those! I work on a lot of small engines, and I prefer Kohler or Kubota for my stuff. Just can't beat a Kohler when it comes to longevity and torque. Kubota, well, they build the best diesels, and their gas engines were pretty good too. Out of all the motors I look at whether they can be rebuilt. Fact is, not many can be anymore. Run it till it's done and throw it away. I really like the K series because they can be rebuilt. (I know they aren't big enough for a SGT.) Kubota's can be. Honestly it's really hard to rebuild the KT's, Mag's and the CH series. It can be done, but they are tricky. Ok, I'm done..... :beerchug:

They all have their good points and bad points. diesel is nice but need to be plugged in or kept warm in the winter. after the winter we just had up here I don't know id I'd want one anymore, but they are pretty easy on fuel and if cared for last a pretty long time. I do kind of wonder what directions small diesels and emissions will be headed. I never thought I'd see the day that an exhaust specialist would be a hi tech job in the diesel world.

Does anyone else make a small diesel that would work?

Mitsubishi, Yanmar are almost exactly identical to the Kubota's. A little harder to get parts for though. I haven't had any luck getting parts for these two through anywhere other than the dealer for the machine that they are in. Kubota's you can just go back to the Kubota dealer and get parts for. Yanmar, you can get parts through Deere, if it came from a Deere anyway. Mitsubishi..... Well, I just can't find anywhere good. FWIW, Cat also made a small diesel that CCC used in their sub-compact tractors.

I put a kohler ECH 23 into my 1541. It runs like a dream. It turns over for 3 seconds and then starts every time, no matter how hot or cold it is. Installs like any CH engine except for the ignition switch. I would do it again if I needed a new engine.
