Run away 2182
 

Hello, My 2nd 2182 (3rd series) has an issue that I've not seen here. Going forward in slow speed, the tractor will pick up speed by itself until it is going full speed ahead! Like I moved the hydro leaver to the top end. Maybe a PO ghost. Kinda hard to mow the lawn that way. Any thoughts? Thanks, Don

Well, that didn't work. Nut was tight, and I got it slightly tighter, but I don't think that is an adjustment. The handle does move up while I drive, and will go full speed in a minute. Anyone with an idea? Thanks, Don

That is the correct adjustment Don. I have seen them before where the nut was just rusty. Try taking it apart and reassembling it. Also note, that is a lock nut, so it turns hard. Might feel tight, but may not in fact be. Could also be that your friction washer are wore out. But, seldom have ever seen that. Try it again, I'm sure that this is where the problem is.

Thanks for the info Jonathan, I'll take it apart later this week. The nut and linkage looks like new, not rusty like I expected, but we all know that doesn't mean it isn't corroded. Thanks again for the info. Don :beerchug:

Well, I couldn't wait. Took off as much as I could today and found #30 Shouldered spacer is rusted to the cross shaft. No adjustment will happen like that. Now to get the rusty bugger off without damage due to NLA on this web site. Maybe a few days of soaking with Kroil will work.

I found a different web site that has the shouldered spacer for $3.79 each. So I will buy 2 for both my 2182's and can now work on getting my rusty one off.

748-3024 is NLA, so I've got the job of getting this apart without destroying it.
