Bought a 125 today
Had a local carpenter guy I know stop by last night (Tue) and asked if I still buy old cubs. I asked him how old, and he was like, I don't know, it's old.
Well of course I needed to find out more. So he gave me the guys name and number, come to find out he lives just three miles away:beerchug: I made the call and went over to see this "old" cub. The guy and I get talking, and find out him and my father used to drink beer together at the local tavern years ago, good....Then we talked politics, presidents, global warming, had a good laugh, and finally he asked if I want to see the tractor. So we go over to the barn, he opens the door, and there is a poop covered 125 with 48" deck, no extras, that's it, plain Jane. Well he begins to tell me the story about the tractor. It was purchased at our local IH dealer, Gillett Implement in 1968 by the County Highway Department. Traded back in 1972 to the same dealer where this guy bought it. He said it had a new engine and a repaint. It does have the black replacement engine and a real dull paint, almost looks orange. He's been using this tractor up till two years ago as his only mower, then bought a zero turn. Overall condition from what I could see of it stuck in the corner is fair. So tomorrow I go and pick it up, there will be pictures at that time. Lastly the guy asked me to continue taking care of "his girl" I told him, I would be happy to. Very cool listening and learning the life story of this old tractor. I think I got a heck of a Lew price even. |
Congrats on the 125 Todd! Looking forward to pics!:beer2:

Got the old bag of bones home today, thinking it should of stayed where it was:bigthink:
The good......I paid $100 for it.......Sure looked better sitting over in the corner of the barn than it did up close today. So for the bad. Steering is shot, PTO, belt, seat, axle seals, trunnion, tires are roached, I'm sure there's more, but can't think of them right now. PO wasn't much for doing ANY maintenance on this poor thing at all. Wire holding the deck on, grill in, oh yeah, even had the fuel tank on backwards:bigthink: How about all the dirt and debris up under this thing? Don't really know what I'm going to do with it just yet, all depends on how the engine runs, and if the thing will even move. |

Good luck with the 125, Todd. At least it has a replacement engine. :beerchug:

I like it. I always see potential in them no matter how roached they are. Just some TLC buddy and all will be well
