First welcome to OCC.
Next are you seeing the flickering charge indicator light while mowing? That seems to be a very common issue with the Vanguards. Make sure your running wide open when you mow, they don't make full voltage till max RPM, make sure the battery is in good condition and if you have a volt meter hook it up to the battery while your mowing to see what is actually happening. That charge light is not a reliable indicator, in fact the last Cub I worked on a LT2180 didn't even have one so my guess is Cub has done away with that setup probably because of complaints. If it starts reliably it is probably charging just fine. One other issue is Vanguard voltage regulators/ rectifiers are not the best. I've changed 3 of them this season. I converted one to a Kohler and it works much better along with being much less expensive.
