Mice !!!
How does everyone keep the mice out of your Mag engines? I have 2 Cubs that I am afraid to use till I get all the nest parts out. I have a another one that I want to keep clean. I thought about just putting some d-con under the hood of each one. Any other suggestions?

Econ might just cause em to crawl inside and die. No real idea on how to keep em out I havnt had issues with it yet but I tend to use mine year round

I haven't had any issues with mice on Cubs I own BUT the last 1811 I bought had the worst nest I've ever seen. I pulled no less than 4 dead mice out of that thing along with generations of bedding and housing.

Decon, ramekin mouse poison and traps. Be careful using the poison if you have dogs and cats around. I hate mice destructive little devils! Had one chew a wire in a wiring harness on an old truck one time left me stranded 50 miles from home! One day and $150 towing bill I fixed it. Funny though the engine in my 1211 came from a jd mower the engine was rebuilt someone cobbled up the wires never got it running for long and parked it. It sat out for 10 yrs with the hood on it I stripped all the jd crap off an put it in my 1211 runs like a top uses no oil doesn't smoke and has original points the mice never did nest in or on it! I was surprised. Guess u could get a bunch of cats! Lol

I talked to some old timers and have used their technique with great results. They said get an old pair of hose, the knee-high ones will be just fine and put some garlic and moth balls in it, then tie off the end. Place on the engine or where ever you have a mouse problem and they will stay away. Don't ask me why this works....maybe they are vampire mice or moth mice:biggrin2:, but has always worked for me. WARNING: Remove the pantyhose before starting your cub or if that heats up you may not want to be around your cub for a while...

This was the mouse condo in a 2165. They also ate the spark plug wire. I hate mice.

Cat litter in the shed? Might be an old wives tale, but I was always told cat litter kept them way. I guess if it smells like a cat it must be a cat.
|
Live cat or some used cat litter. Dcon will probably just make mice croak inside your engines anyway.

Moth balls do work to keep mice away. We used to put them around bags of seed corn and beans to keep mice and rats from chewing holes in the bags.

Ditto on the moth balls. On the tractors I store and in my yard sheds, I change it out every 6 months.
