149 starts cranking starter as soon as batt is hooked up
OK here it is. I noticed that the blue wire was unhooked from my VR, So I put a terminal on it and hooked it up to the VR to the terminal marked L. I noticed in the diagrams that the terminals should be marked B,G,and F. I don't know if that matters? Anyhow .. now as soon as I hook up the battery the starter starts cranking the neutral and pto safety switches are open. But if I disconnect the blue wire everything seems normal it starts and fires fine but I am not sure if the battery is charging.I have checked, double checked, and triple checked that all the right wires were connected to all the right places. any ideas guys?

Post a pic of your regulator. Yes, it matters how it is hooked up.

I just went down this road 2 days ago. Like J says, post up a pic of your V/R. If you've bought one of the ebay offerings, chances are you have the 4-post variety with 3 on the side and one on the bottom.
The bottom one might not be marked, but should be the "G" terminal. The 3 sides should be marked "BATT" battery, "F" field and "L" load. If this fits your V/R, and your color-coded wiring harness is still intact, you probably have the blue wire hooked up to the side "L" terminal. The blue wire should go to the bottom side terminal. The "L" terminal is there to power headlights, etc. |
