Wheel weights or liquid filled tire tubes?

CC149 to be used only as a snow plow in western KY. Heaviest normal snow is about 6".

if you use windsheild washer fluid you can still run tubeless and it will be far cheaper than buying weights.

Green antifreeze mixed 50/50 with water is heavier than windshield washer fluid, and can still be run tubeless, but will cost a little more than windshield washer fluid. This is still far cheaper than iron weights.

Chains. Far more effective for pushing snow than either weights or fluid. Of course, you can always do all three!

Chains and any variation of weight. As mentioned previously. All three = maximum effectivness. Jmho... good luck!

I run CaCL2, wheel weights and chains for snow. I don't have all my tires loaded, but am working on getting CaCl2 in all of them. I'm not scared of rust. As long as you fix any leaks, it will be fine. CaCl2 is cheap, and HEAVY. 8lbs per gallon for water/antifreeze, and just under 12lbs/gallon for CaCl2. That means on a 23-10.50X12 tire, 28 more lbs!! That's almost one more iron wheel weight!!!

I add weight to nearly all my tractors, I start out with loading the tires (I always use tubes not sure why but I do) and almost all the turfs get chains (2 linkers). Then if I am fortunate enough to find a pair of weights, the weights get added to the "next coolest" tractor that has been running around weightless.

Please don't be misled... I don't have very many sets of weights... 3, I think. It's not like I've got 50 tractors and 110 sets of wheel weights LIKE SOME PEOPLE AROUND HERE DO...

I don't remember for sure but I don't think any of my Originals have loaded tires, they pretty-much just get used to putt around on though.

Hmmm... so you guys build nice old Cubs and then rattle the he** out of them with chains??? I dont like those things, should have been lost in the dark ages where they come from... Ive had them damage a few nice vehicles over the years so I wont put them anything now, My winter rig has atv lugs with wheel weights, dont seem to need to be filled, ya it will spin easier than chains but its alot better than ags and pushes a 54" blade well enough, mind you Im clearing about 250yds of gravel drive so it might not work as well on pavement, never know, the new quad and atv tires are pretty high tech and have alot of traction on some high power toys..... still hate the shakin and vibration with chains tho.

That brings up a question. How do the ATV tires compare to AGs for plowing and other dirt work?

Lance, I agree the chains cause an uneven ride. I need them on turfs to cut my lawn since my house it built into a hill. Leave them on all year. I've found that if you deflate the tires slightly, adjust the chains nice and snug, then air up the tires, the chains don't flop around much. Clip extra links off, or tie wrap them down, and there is little risk of damage to fenders--though I've seen it happen!
