70th anniversary of D-Day

70 years ago today.

My father went in on the first wave on Omaha beach. He was in the 29th division.

A little history:

"Called up for service again in World War II, the division was sent to England where it trained for two years, before participating in Operation Overlord, the landings in Normandy, France. The division is best known for being among the first wave of troops to the shore at Omaha Beach, suffering massive casualties in the process. It then advanced to Saint-Lô, and eventually through France and into Germany itself. These actions have since been the subject of many motion pictures and video games."

This is believed to be some of the 29th going ashore. I wonder if my dad is one of them?

Unfortunately he died 50 years ago.

Did you watch the ceremonies this morning? It was good.

Your father is my hero. I have so much respect for those guys. If those murdering nazis won the war I would not be here.

My heros's as well! Always have been and always will be.

Have you read the book "Bedford Boys" It's the story of the NG unit from Bedford, VA. Awesome story and heart breaking as well because that unit suffered heavy casualties on that morning. God bless 'em all, each and every one.

There has been in the last week on PBS a show about them, hopefully you may have caught it.

BTW, that book can be had at half.com very cheaply. Lots of good buys there. I don't recall the author as I gave the book to our local library when I finished it.

Darn shame, many among the younger generations know little or nothing about history.

Thank God for what that generation did for this country. I can't imagine the current administration being able to deal with what they had to.
