782 help please.

So I put the deck on to try mowing for the first time since I bought it. Before I began I checked the oil and it was at the top of the hash marks. After twenty minutes or so of mowing. I was going straight up a small hill, towards the top I heard a puff and then it had a lot of smoke. When I opened the hood I see that I have oil dripping from the breather. When I check the oil now it is a little high. Could the fuel pump be leaking into the crank case? It is a series 2 kt17. Thanks for any help.

Were you on the hill when you checked the oil, or was the tractor level?

Yes it could. If you have'nt yet turn your fuel off on the bottom of the tank and then see if the oil smells like gas. you may need a pump and carb rebuild.

Smell the oil and report back. I would be a slice of pizza your fuel pump took a dump on you. :beerchug:

It was back on level ground.

I will do that as soon as possible, but I have to get ready to go work right now. It will probably be tomorrow morning before I have an update. I do thank everyone for the help though.

I say fuel pump.

But how do you "hear a puff"? :bigthink:

If you have oil dripping from air breather. Breather valve in the valve tappet is shot. remove and replace. Oil will quit coming up breather tube.

Oh by the way I have 15 of them and I never had a fuel pump leak gas into the crankcase.
