Found a 1862 on CL. PO said it has a broken rod but the power steering, hydro and 46 inch mower work well. We shall see-someday. This may eventually be a candidate for the 18 horse D-662 Kubota that I was going to put in the 782. Then it could be a 1862D.

Good looking machine, hope to hear soon what you find out about it! :beerchug:

Thanks Jimbob

The pictures make it look better than it really is. Plastic is cracked in several places and some rust in fenders, but the price was right and it has some desirable features, especially the power steering and CV driveshaft. I plan to pull the engine tomorrow and see how badly it is damaged.

I wouldn't worry too much about the plastic on it, it's a very common problem. I hope you can get it going without too much trouble!

And I hope you have a hand with that engine; they are heavy! :biggrin2: I've done the old single cylinder thumpers and the newer Command Twins by myself, but have always needed/wanted a hand when it comes to the Mag's; heavy animals! :beerchug:

Nice find on the 1862!

1862D. ??? That would be.... .... ... awesome!

Pulled the Mag 18 out of the 1862 yesterday, but didn't have time to tear it down. I hope to do that early next week.

I removed the tins on the Mag 18 yesterday and found a 2 inch by 3 inch hole in the crankcase just above the starter. Someone had epoxied the three broken pieces into the case after a previous thrown rod. The rod currently on that journal found its way out through the same hole. I did not go any deeper after finding that. I intend to finish the disassembly this weekend.

Maybe they epoxied the rod too! :biggrin2:
