Reworking a Cub Cadet Model 1864 ( circa 1996 ) with 48" GT Deck
 

Greetings, I'm starting to rework a Cub Cadet Model 1864 ( circa 1996 ) with a 48" GT Deck 317190 SN# 519483. The tractor runs good but my mower deck has had a hard life. I suspect the blade spindles are original, and the nuts are frozen on.

Spray them good with PB Blaster and let them set for a while. Adding heat to them could work too.

Deck Wasn't a Problem, STATOR was
 

Greetings, Did you know that you need to check the Deck Spindles with the Blades still on them? Well I do now. Cool everything Solid. All that was required New Blades and a ton of Fresh Paint on the Deck. I'm cutting grass 04/09/2010.

I knew the battery was dead when I bought the Model 1964. Well one of the stator lead wires was worn though. My Neighbor is a real Gearhead rebuilds racing Go-Karts and Shifter Cars. We pulled the Kohler CH18S engine. When we removed the raer engine cowling the entire housing was caked with dust and oilly grass clippings. Probably some 15 years accumulation. In fact this model Kohler engine didn't have a Stator wire shield and the dirt had gotten behind the wire pushing it into the flwheel. Done and working.

Typical of a 3 owner Mower. Some of the original wiring had been jumped or cross wired. That took a bit of trial and extra fuses. Done and working.

Should I have to hold the Hydro Level at all times
 

My Model 1864 is new to me. This is my first Hydro Shaft drive unit. Should I have to hold the Hydro Level at all times? The unit holds good in Neutral. Accelerates great in both Forward and Reverse. But if you left go of the Hydro Level it returns to Neutral and a dead stop.

At times that's get on these Alabama Hills.
