Cub Cadet 1772

Hey guys....now that I've got the driveline tackled and the alternator belt replaced, I'm trying to replace the front fan belt. It is small like the rear alternator belt and looked fairly easy to remove. I loosened the tensioner and got it off and around all pulleys, but I noticed that it is still hung up over on the air cleaner side towards the bottom of the front engine (or maybe its PTO) clutch. It is not gonna come off because there is some type of bracket that is part of the block it looks like. Will I have to pull the radiator and then pull that clutch off to remove and replace the fan belt??

I will try to get a couple pictures in a little while to post so you'll know exactly what I am talking about.

It's been a number of years since I last had to replace the fan belt, but you are correct, ther is a bracket near the air cleaner side that needs to be loosened. I think it is called a torque bracket. I don't remember taking it off entirely, but I thought I simply loosened the bolts on the bracket enough to slip the belt by. I also thought I disconnected the connector for the PTO clutch and removing the wire from the small clip that secures the wire to the top of the fan bracket mounting bolt.

Without looking right at it, I just did a lot of work on my 782D earlier this year. That bracket your talking about is part of the front PTO clutch. Shouldn't have to remove the rad. On the 782D, there are two bolts holding that bracket on behind the air cleaner. IIRC, I took one bolt out and loosened the other. After doing that, I could turn the bracket enough for the belt to clear around it. Going off of memory and did it on the 782D, but the 1772 should be the same. If you want me to, I could get off my backside and go look on my 1772. :biggrin2:

Under edit: Ha, Ha, Frank types faster than me...............

Yes, you need to remove, maybe loosen the torque bracket to get the belt off. With the belt off check your fan bearings for any problems. I had to replace those bearings on my 882 because they were worn out and also check the idler pulley bearings too.

The bracket is in the 4 o'clock position looking at the front of the tractor as seen here. It keeps the pto from spinning around beacuse they are not bolted to the engine like the other tractors are.

Here is what the fan shaft looks like broke down.

Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.:beerchug:

Thank you so much for the help guys. Would anyone happen to have a part number for that belt that I can maybe get at O'reilly Auto Parts or Napa Auto Parts tomorrow? I will have the old one to compare with once I get it completely off.

That bracket down there down there does look like it keeps the PTO from turning (it would rock back and forth and the bracket stopped it in both directions) but doesn't it need to turn to work??

Look at me! I'm sorry about asking that, I guess it is just easier to type a question before looking myself. I've found the part # on PartsTree and looked it up and both O'reilly and Napa. O'reilly has a Heavy Duty Notched/Ribbed Belt for $26.00 and Napa has a Medium Duty Belt for $10.00. Both belts cross by using the Cub Cadet Part Number of 754-3022. Which one you think I should go with!?!?

Napa Part Number: Napa Belt 3L270W

O'reilly Part Number: Gates 9385HD

I have the gates notched on both my 782D and 1572.

Josh, it's amazing what I can get out typing with only 2 fingers hitting the keyboard. :biggrin2:

I use the 7320 on the water pump and the 6727 on the fan, both are Gates numbers.

Thanks guys....searching around for the belt now.

UPDATE: Finally found a place that could get it to me by today....a "local" parts place that has a few stores around the state. Gonna pick it up at 4 pm. Thanks Westwood Auto Parts and no thanks to the big box Parts Stores!! haha.

Man that little bracket was sure hard to get to and loosen but I managed to get it.

Todd,
Is that front belt smaller in diameter like the original. Last one I picked up from CC was NLA for the original size and they cross referenced to the next larger size. It works fine, but was just curious...........
