K301 cam removal question

I am tearing my block down and don't have a valve spring compression tool. From the manual I gather the valves have to come out before I can remove the cam correct? I Was going to have the machine shop remove them for me when the ground them.

No,the valves do not have to come out,but the crank does to remove the cam

Lew, are you sure?
I've never pulled the cam out of anything without pulling the valves. I suppose if you roll it to TDC, there would be no pressure, but it sure is easier with the valves out.

you can take the cam out with the valves in.

I must be kind of backwards. valves are the last thing I take off the block and the first thing I put back in.

I never tried doing it that way. I always take them out before the cam, and put them in after the cam. Might be easier with the lifters out of the hole. I'll try it that way next time. :bigthink:

I am just too lazy to get the valve compressor tool out and do it right.
Manual time.
Nice manual,and good drawings....
