129 problem

Howdy I have a question my 129, is having a fuel problem I believe, today it started to sputter and felt like it was going to die and it started to run better headed back to the barn and just got in the door and she died, lifted the hood and I have a see through fuel filter and it was bone dry, had just filled the tank so plenty of gas, was standing there trying to figure out what was wrong when the fuel filter started to fill up, what would cause this? thanks any help would be fantastic ya all take care Big John From PA.

Take a flashlight and check the bottom of your tank, there has to be something restricting flow, dirt, chunk of something floating around in there. Make sure your fuel line isn't collapsing either.:bigthink:

make sure the vent in the cap isnt plugged.

I've seen these small fuel lines start to deteriorate, but not collapse....

Sounds like a sticking float/ crud in the carb to me.

Best strategy is just to drain and flush the fuel system. Replace the fuel lines and filter. Pull the bowl off, or pull the whole carb and clean it.

That's what I meant Jonathan but deteriorate was harder to spell!:beerchug:

Take the fuel line off of the shut off valve and see how good the flow is, if it isn't as good as it should be, take the shut off valve out of the bottom of the tank and clean the screen.

That's what I'd start with. If the flow's good, put the line back on the tank and take it off at the carb and reopen petcock. If it's not flowing, then it's the line or fuel filter. The fuel filter is for a gravity fed system isn't it?

That was my first thought as well.

Might want to check the screen on Item #6...

Fuel Problem

Thanks for all the posts, so since its a gravity fed fuel system a in line filter IS NOT recommended ? I checked and cleaned the screen in the tank gonna get new fuel line and delete the filter and see how that works thanks again as usual this site is great.
