Late harvest
This has been a strange cool summer here in N.E.Ohio. I only have 2 tomato plants this year, beefsteak variety. I have A LOT of darn near softball size 'maters, and none with a single tinge of red.
Are other folks gardens running late this year? I think I am gonna need a 5-gallon bucket of corn meal to cook up all the green fries..... |
We were about normal, timing wise,,,, :bigthink:
A little dry, though!! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6ead338.jpg Our first real year for berries!! :biggrin2: http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psa35d5163.jpg Is THAT a berry, or what?? |
Let me know when the berry cobbler goes in the oven. I'll be right over...
P.S. Is that your daughter in that picture? Very cute girl. |
Nice blackberry!!
Our garden is only a couple weeks behind but we are already enjoying tomatoes, Cherokee Purples, San Marzanos and Costoluto Florintino. Peppers are just turning red now, first planting of corn is just about done and we need a break from it...if you know what I mean. Dug up a potato, really nice Burbank Russets, 18 for that first plant. Garlic were epic this year, best ever as are onions. Good year for beans, raspberries, cukes and pretty much everything else. We've had lots of rain here in Ontario, cub cadet is running every 3 days still cutting grass. |

If someone was with her, she would send them to the other side of the row so she would not be seen. LOL!!! The berry pic is a boysenberry, they are enormous!! :bigthink: They also have enormous flavor. We have about 70 feet of berries, and as a minimum, we must have picked 20 gallons of berries. The mocking birds also love the berries, I threw over a half dozen nests out of the berry plants. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps394aab25.jpg sometimes, they would rebuild in 24 hours,,, |

Cooked up some green fried tomatoes last night...MMMMmmmMMMMM
Now if those 'Maters would get solid red...I have 2 with just a smidge of pink on them today. Beefsteak variety makes good "green frys". |
I have been eating and canning tomatoes for the past month. Although, I have most likely had a bit warmer temperatures than you have up in N.E Ohio.
Nice berries CADplans. |
Ditto what Ash said.
I probably pulled 30 pounds just last night. I don't can but I give a lot away. I have 12 plants of different variety and more tomatoes than ever. It was a good year for me. I used no sprays or fertilizer and it was just great. My 2 year old granddaughter lovers them so I took no chances with chemicals. I'm just south east of Columbus about 25 miles. I lived about 60 miles North of Columbus for about 10 years and it was a totally different climate. I got out of the snow belt (lake effect) region. Maybe next year you can get an earlier start, maybe use ground covering to warm the soil first. |
Your grand daughter is very cute cad, as far as the my garden goes, we will be pickling , freezing &
Canning chili peppers from now til November, bitter mellon almost done, green bell peppers done & eggplant , string beans ,rhubarb long gone blue berries gone crazy & still producing !:biggrin2: |
