Best Lawn Sweeper
 

I am looking for a lawn sweeper that will last more then a few years. Some of the new ones I've looked at have plastic gears and they get bad reviews because of that. I am not opposed to looking for a "vintage" sweeper if it is built solidly.
Does anyone know what sweeper fits the bill? Thanks, KayakDon

I think Agrifab or Brinly is about as good as you're going to get unless you go commercial powered unit. If I were you, I keep an eye out locally for a used 42" sweeper that looks to be taken care of. For my :TwoCents:, that's where your money is best spent :beerchug:

Agrifab is the brand that has plastic gears that so many people are complaining about in their feedback. I will keep looking on CL but was hoping someone here had the almighty answer. Thanks, Don

The best money I ever spent was 20+ years ago for a leaf vacuum called, "EZ
Rake".

It had a mower chute adaptor, flexible hose to the blower housing and another flexible hose to the enclosed trailer to hold the debris. With a good mower deck, it would go through deep, wet leaves and leave almost nothing behind. I still have it, still use it.

I've also had two other, smaller models of EZ Rakes, one lawn sweeper and a CC triple bagger on the back of a Cub. The latter two worked well but if you had any volume of debris, they were useless.

I have an Agri-fab. No issues. I think it all amounts up to knowing how to run a piece of equipment. If you run the brushes in the dirt (too low) I could see it stripping gears. FWIW, Agri-Fab, and Brinly both make an "industrial" or "contractor grade" sweeper. Costs quite a bit more, but look really tough. Agri-Fab has a really cool one that you can offset the hitch on.

I checked on this model, and it appears to have steel gears.

Jonathan, if you look at the web site that you included in your reply and check out the reviews, you will see most of the replies complain about the plastic gears failing! Rated 1 star:ThumbsDown::ThumbsDown: Don

I've had one from Lowes for about 5 years now and its still working great, I've never had to do anything to it.

My bad. I didn't even look.

Like I said. I have one (Agri-Fab, not that model). Had it a couple years. Pick up grass on a couple acres for a year, then this year on a little over an acre/acre and half. It's an older one. Not new. Like I said, anything that isn't run right will fail. There are lots of manufacturers out there. I'd bet, they all use plastic gears. Cub Cadet makes sweepers.

I have an Ohio Steel model. Not sure about the gear drive but it's done very well for me for 5 years or so. IH made one but not sure if it was subbed out or not?

when I was 12 we had a Parker self propelled sweeper.worked great,and was fun to ride on
