982 Front PTO switch is killing the engine - help?
I have an IH build 982 and need some help. There is no mower deck on it right now. I started the tractor and decided to turn the front PTO on to make sure it was working. When I flipped the switch the engine dies. I assumed the clutch went bad so I disconnected the wire to the clutch. Again I flip the switch and the engine dies. Maybe the switch is bad I thought. I have a spare PTO switch so I changed it out, same thing. Now where is my problem? Not sure where to go from here. Any help appreciated.

were you setting on the seat when you tried the switch

Yes I was. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

A fault in the safety switches. Perhaps the seat switch is bad, or no longer wired up. :bigthink: Could even be a faulty PTO switch. Get a wiring diagram and start tracing! :beerchug:

My guess is also the seat switch my old 782s was doing just that and the seat switch plug had vibratedoff

From the ID Tag on your tractor, what is the exact Model and Serial numbers so I can look at the correct Wiring Diagram.:HeadScratch: |
