1450 rebuild
 

Pulled the engine from my 1450. It was using some oil and running poorly, hunting, losing power and such. Pulled the head and didn't see anything to alarming. Cylinder wall looked pretty good and not an excessive amount of carbon build up. Isomounts were bad on right side but in pretty good shape on the left. What are points of emphasis to check out on these engines?

Yes I'm going to tear it the rest of the way down and check it all over good. I own my own tractor repair shop, but this will be my first kohler rebuild and thought I would see what areas are generally the most troublesome in these engines so I didn't overlook anything. Thanks in advance!

Egg shaped crank journal and cylinder bore are the most overlooked. So, grind the crank, and bore the block. New rod, piston, rings, yadda yadda.... Just like any other motor.

Ok. I've heard alot about balance gears and governor gears causing problems, not sure if a 1450 had balance gears or not? The tag says its a K321AQS.

you can throw those away if it has them.

Yeah like Don said toss the balance gears. I have a k321 I took them out and didn't notice a difference after. They are a hand grenade waiting to explode is all they are.
