New blower just in time for winter

It struck again; the Cub bug. Been eyeballing a (somewhat) local deal that's been up for a while but hasn't sold; when will I learn there's usually a reason it hasn't sold!! The original listing was for an 1864, 54" deck, 42" blade, and 451 blower for $1000. Too rich for my blood, especially seeing as I don't even need it. A week later, and it's down to $900. So I take a shot and text the guy asking if he'll sell the blower separately. Bingo, he said yes (and at a good price at that). Then my curiosity gets the best of me; seeing how "little" he wanted for the blower, I ask about the rest. After a bit of back and forth, and finding a local Cub buddy of mine to unload everything but the blower on, we set up a time and place for me to buy everything based on the tentative condition of the tractor. So I load up my trailer and dog for the ride, and away I go.
I get there and after finally catching up with this guy, get a chance to see things. Deck is in fine shape, blade needs a wear edge but otherwise good, blower looks to have very little use (said he installed a new worm gear), but the tractor...phew. It's seen better days. Busted off grill/hood, couple bird sh!t weld jobs on the muffler, zip ties galore, wiring hanging off, but the engine fires up and doesn't smoke so that's a plus. I tell him it's worse than I thought and offer him less than we had talked about earlier on. He says he just wants it gone so takes what I offer. We load up, and away I go.
I only snapped a couple pics of the tractor for the hour it was in my possession but it's enough to see the condition of the machine. What I found interesting is the air cleaner. I've not seen a Command that has clips to hold it on rather than a center wing nut :bigthink: Also grabbed a couple of the blower (and one of my driving buddy trying to sleep :biggrin2:). It's the first one I've ever had that has the rock guard and spring still intact on the chute, so that'll be neat to try out.
Anywho, enjoy the pics guys. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to the technical section to download the 451 manual and study up :beerchug:

Hello, i wonder what year that is. The 2518 i took a motor from had the clip on air cover. The ser# on the 2518 was unreadable and no plate on the motor so i have no idea of the year. Mike

I should have taken a closer look. I'll have to ask my buddy who wound up with it what the date plate on the motor and Cub are to see what year. It's got to be an early one as it has a metal tunnel cover as well. :bigthink:

Something tells me he's not going to do anything so creative with it. That just means I'll have to ship you the next one for fixin up like that :biggrin2: :beerchug:

Ryan, after seeing that cub AND your dog in the passenger seat, I thought it was another Mad Max movie!!! Looks like you are going to have some fun throwing some snow this year and what a gutsy machine to do it on. Glad you scored it!

Also diggin' those IH floormats in your truck.

haha thanks Cub Cadet 123. I hate to get the Super out in the snow to play seeing as how she's in such good shape, but at the same time, I'd imagine it's a pain to switch from blade to blower from snow storm to snow storm. Guess we'll see what the year brings :biggrin2:

And thanks on the floor mats! Between that, the IH steering wheel cover, and the IH sticker on the back window, I think people know what I'm about :biggrin2:

I'm sure you already know you will need the drop brackets to put that on your super.

I have read in the manual, from other users, and been straight told that you need those brackets to properly mount it up on a Super. However, I have a buddy that I sold a 451 to earlier this year who got curious and didn't take my advice about mounting it to his 2182 without the brackets. He SAID (and sent me a couple pics and videos) that it worked and sat level. I never saw it first hand, nor has it moved any snow yet, so only time will tell. I find it hard to believe that you WOULDN'T need those brackets to get it on there properly but I guess stranger things have happened.

However, I suppose it is a moot point as I don't plan on using it on my Super. I don't want to take it out in the salt but more importantly, now that I've moved snow in a cab, the LAST thing I want to do is move snow without one, especially with a blower when the wind changes :biggrin2: This weekend I'm going to give it a test fit on my 1864 and see how it works. I'd hate to wait until game time to try it only to find out that it needs work.
