1572 Frame Question
 

High Everyone,
Been reading post for years on the this site and I have my first post.
I recently picked up a 1572 with deck and 450 blower. The tractor has potential as the usual things are bad. Mainly the rear end drive line issues. I picked it up at a good price. Ive already found a donor 1711 with a good rear for cheap. My first question is has anyone seen a bent frame from having the rear end being loose. Almost every bolt was loose on the entire frame including cracked welds on the cross members mid frame. I am going to try and make some type of jig to check the frame to see how square it is. Tell me some of your thoughts on this. I have it down to the bare frame now and it just looks crooked. I would like to do a full restore on the super.

I had a 1772 in my shop that every thing was loose and the frame looked like it was twisted. It leaned to the muffler side. I played with it a bit and found that if you loosen the bolts in the rear and twist it straight and then tighten the bolts it cured the problem. The Super frames because they are longer with no additional cross members tend to twist. That's the biggest reason for them breaking the rear end cases. It's also why I designed the rear end brace now being sold by Xtreme. Just a FYI the gearing is different between the 1711 and the 1572, the rears can be swapped but you need to deal with a few issues that you may not have considered.

My 1572 has had a "lean" to it since I've owned it day one. I never quite figured out what caused it, and just came to the same conclusion that the frame had a twist to it. Sam, which bolts did you loosen up, straighten the frame and retighten? All of them including the ones up front by the pump?

The bolts that hold the rear need to be loosened, all 8 of them. Put a jack under the low side and lift it enough to twist it the other way and then tighten them up. Just my 2 cents but if you don't have the brace kit on it this is the time to do it.

My one and only 782 had a bent frame when I bought it. The frame would twist whenever I used the lift for the 450 blower. It would flex up to a quarter inch. It made sense if you look at the geometry of the lift mechanism.
I traded the 782 in years ago. Now I wonder if the bolts were loose on the rear end. It had the cast iron version. I ended up coming up with a system with 2 small hydro cylinders to pick up the blower so my newer 1541 would not ended up with a twisted frame.

What is the small bracket for on the axle brace from extreme. Does the arm come in below the frame and just a single point attachment with the flat square piece or what?
I plan on adding some mid frame reinforcements. I can not believe how flimsy the frame is when it is stripped down. My intent was to make a little loader for the super but it makes me nervous.

Most of it is related to the Cyclops tractors but things like water in the axle tubes and the braces are common to the 72/82 series also.

The square plate bolts to the frame, the other part bolts to the axle tubes. Here are some pics of it on one of my 2182's

Thanks Sam, I'll be trying the straightening for the frame and adding the brackets to the rear end in the spring. I hope things hold out till spring.
