1863 question

hello everyone,i recently picked up a 1863 with a 48 inch deck. tractor had been sitting in a field for a couple of years and needs alot of tlc. apparently the fuel pump went bad and it was put out to pasture so to speak. i did get it running, and the hydro works as well as the lift. hour meter shows 1111 hours, and it does work. it does have some rust issues on dash tower from a leaking battery,a missing seat, and broken plastic grill. i,m debating on parting it out,or fixing it for resale.i figure i would have at least 500 plus my time to fix it. any thoughts???

First off, :Welcome2:

Next, how about some pics of this machine to help determine physical condition?

If all it needs is some paint, a touched up battery tray, and a grill (which they still sell for about $132 iirc), I'd say it all comes down to what you paid for it. if you can fix it up and sell it for say $700 or so, I'd do it just because I hate to see a good Cub parted out.

Otherwise you have to consider the time and effort it'd take to part it out. You won't get much for the trans since it used a hydro gear pump which is less desirable, the rusted body panels won't fetch much, an 1111 hour engine probably won't bring top dollar, so that basically leaves you with the engine, side panels/hood, maybe the trans, a couple misc parts, and maybe a deck to sell.

Just have to weigh your options and see what works out better for you in the end :beerchug:

I had my eye on that one,did you get it for a less than he was asking?I thought is was a 1864 as it has hydraulic lift ?I was going to part it and use some parts on my 2284.

i picked this up for 150 dollars,my original idea was to use the twin in either one of my old allis 900 series or a sears suburban. if it was a 1864 i probably wouldve already decided to fix it. i too hate to see a tractor parted out,but the dash tower and battery tray are shot from rust.

Too bad you're not close, I'd help you double your money right out the door :biggrin2:
