Ross steering mod
 

Any body ever install a Ross steering mod kit? I see it is replacing a nut for a bearing system.. I still don't really understand what it does.. Or how it helps.. Any body, ???

I watched this vid before I posted, this is kinda what sparked it.. it still doesn't say how it helps.

that little thrust bearing takes out friction in your steering system. have not personally used one but heard it does help reduce steering effort

Think of them as a little "Lazy Susan".

I normally put one in, when I rebuild a column. IMHO anytime you can reduce friction or drag in the steering system, there will ultimately be less wear.

I put one on my 782D when I rebuilt the steering a couple years ago. Since I had to replace stuff, I went with the bearing setup. To be honest, I don't really notice too much of a difference. Now when I hop on a Super, I notice the difference...........:biggrin2:

Under edit, I agree with Yosemite. Works like the Lazy Susan concept and does reduce wear/tear. If you have to rebuild, couldn't hurt to put this setup in. Not really breaking the bank pricewise.

Well worth the $15 or so, IMO. I can tell less drag on my 129 steering after adding the bearing.

The forum's technical library has a good article on rebuilding the box. Getting the box right it important.

The kit replaces a single washer with a thrust bearing sandwiched between two washer. Instead of surfaces rubbing together you have balls rolling in races. Less friction. Just like the others said :)
