D722...what's it worth, will it fit?

Found this on CL. Will these fit in a D600 or D640 engine mount? I know there is a lot of other stuff that would have to be fabricated too. I'm thinking he is also a little high on the price. He says there was 930 hours on the meter but I don't like buying something that I haven't seen run from someone I don't know. What's it worth or should I let it go?:bigthink:

Todd,
I don't have one here to look at, but Tim (Spudder) and I looked at the larger Kubota's before and we just don't think you can squeeze them in. They are a few inches longer. The D640's just barely fit as is. You might be able to, but no way will it have a front PTO. FWIW, I have a 3cyl Mitsubishi diesel from a Jacobson, and I've looked at it every which way I can and just don't think there's room. Plus, you have to remember it's a larger engine and really needs a bigger radiator. I think the Kubota's cooling system was pushing it anyway.

Price wise, it doesn't look too bad being it appears to have a lot of parts on it. I know what you mean about buying something you can't see run from someone you don't know. Don't know what to tell you..... If you can steal it... say $500, it would be worth getting and seeing what you can do with it. You have some "other" brand stuff IIRC, surely you could do something with it.... :bigthink:

Jonathan , check this thread out, I'm pretty sure the 722 is very close to the same size as a D640:

I dunno Ben. Like I said, I don't have one here. Looks like his fit! Maybe it was the D900 (? I think that's right) that we were looking at. What was the Kubota machine is was in???? ........ It was a front mount 4X4 Kubota mower. 2XXX or 3XXX. Can't remember, but we didn't think it would fit. I know my Mitzy won't. Oh well... Like I said, I'll surrender to that thread. Looks good to me! :beerchug:

Todd

Pretty sure it will go looks like it's maybe 1/4 longer at most. I have a PDF on it and I'll e-mail it to you.

Yup, after the 722 they get noticeably bigger. I know a guy with a bunch of those old big estate front mounted mowers, Jacobson, gravely, Etc. The Mitsubishi and 1105 kubotas are way too big, I've measure and remeasured them like you have hoping it would fit in a cub, lol:biggrin2:
Todd, like Jonathan said, the price isn't bad, but less would be better.

I need to repower a 982 so I would need to flip the cooling to the front side and fab a bunch of stuff for that. I don't know if the radiator he has will fit either. But I'm looking at $1300+ for an air cooled Vangaurd. I had a D722 in a Kubota G1900s and it was a beast.

Too bad it's 6 hours away from me. :beatdeadhorse:

Todd,
Pretty sure it's the same size as the D600's and D640's. Extra bore and stroke. :bigthink: Cub 123 hit the nail on the head. I'd call the guy and offer $500 like Jon said and try to snag it. Guys around me are snagging the motors out of the old front mount mowers and putting them in cubs. Mike Masheris from another forum has dropped a couple in 982's. He even turbo charged one. Went to an auction Mike was at. He was looking at one of the old front mount mowers with a Kubota (can't remember mower brand at this time). Anyway, it had something like 3000 hours on it and ran like a top. He didn't bat an eye at the hours.

Back on topic, I'd buy. Worse case scenario, if it doesn't work, you could easily sell it and make back your money and them some. Keep us posted. :beerchug:

I found this. Looks like the crankshaft is the same for all 3.
