adjusting 44c deck
I replaced the deck carriage with a correct one for my 149, it lifts much higher than the one I had on it. My problem is I can't get it level from front to back. I have turned the front up as far as it will go and it is still a good half inch or more higher in the back The only option I see is putting in some spacers on the back pin mounts. Is there anything else I should look at first?

Hey cub 149,
Thats the way the manual says to do it. You have to remove the 2 rear mounts and put spacers between the deck and the mount. Thats what i did to mine. Works great. |
1/2 seems like an awful lot. I don't think they intended for you to add that much spacers.

thnks Diz, that's what I thought but I am thinking like aagitch that a half is a lot. Did you have to do that much spacing on yours? I am going to look at it all again today with a fresh set of eyes and mind.

Well, I finally got the deck straight but it's not the way I wanted it. I did use the correct mule drive from my parts tractor but I had to use the carriage from my old set up. What I ended up finding was the hangers where shorter on the new one and it would lift really high but they kept me from getting it level. I ended up using my old hangers also, so I still didn't gain on height of my cut. I would like to get 3" or a little better but all I can get out of this set up is 2.25". I am thinking that if I put in some spacers I may gain an extra half inch or so? Any thoughts on that?

Do you have a picture of your setup? You shouldn't have to do all this weird stuff to level the deck. I'm not convinced that you have the right parts.

This is the rear deck latch, same as the other deck I have. Attachment 2917 This is the side adjustable lift hanger, same on both decks Attachment 2918 This is the mule drive I am using from the parts tractor, the one I belive to be correct for the 149 Attachment 2919 This is the old mule drive I did away with. This is like the one I had on my old 1650. Attachment 2920 This is the carriage from the parts tractor that I wanted to use. Notice the rails are parralell to the front unlike the one I am using now. Attachment 2921 See next post, I ran out of space for pictures |

This is the deck from the parts tractor that is rough but you can see it only has two holes for the lift pins clevis (not sure what you call these). I put a red dot where the hole is on the deck I am using. It has three holes.
Attachment 2922 This is the left lift hanger, the one I am using is about one inch longer than the other one. I have two pictures, one with the hanger beside the other one for reference. Also, since the carriage is different (it turns in or is narrower towards the front) the hanger has a bend in it to reach in to attach to the carriage. Attachment 2923 Attachment 2924 That's it. What do you think? With the other set up it wouldn't level out from front to back. The front was half inch low. It also would lift so high that it would rub the belt on the deck. Is this all to do with the lift hangers maybe? |
