Kohler kt17 series 2 question

Does anyone know how many hours you could expect to get on one of these engines if they were well taken care of all there lives. The reason I ask my red 782 has 2000 hours on it an it still runs like new but just wondering how much longer can this thing keep going?

At 2K I seriously doubt it's original. If it is..... it's a ticking time bomb. 800-1K hrs was probably average. I've seen several that blew way before 800.... I've seen some than made 1200 even more. I don't know that I've ever seen one make 2K. I really, really doubt it's the original.

that's allot of hours out of a KT

As far as I can tell its original. The guy I bought it from said he put 40 hrs. on it. The guy before that the original owner saved all the receipts from the day he bought it I have the folder. The only thing I see was done was a new coil, new fuel pump, an new starter. But the way its sounds I hope your right an its the second motor

you could check the tractors build date and see if it coincides with the time frame of the KT17 1 or 2. allot of engines were changed under warranty . another thing I see allot is kids play on the tractor and leave the key on. hour meter keeps ticking

The # on this is 144782399 think that would be a 1984 an that is also the year the guy bought it

My 1983 CCC 782 has about 2250 hours showing on the meter. It's a KT-17, series II. Just put new points/breaker in it last month and runs good. I've got my eye out for a Kohler M18 or similar replacement engine, but for now, it's running great.

I'm not at all surprised at a Series 2 lasting 2k hrs, at 2500 hrs, I might question it. Anything further than 2500, it would have almost certainly had a rebuild.

Really? Because two engine guys on here think its odd.....:bigthink:

How many have you seen that ran over 2K for sure without hour meter "fake time"?

I'm with Don..... I wonder how many times that hour meter ran while the machine wasn't on......

Didn't all 782's have a clock style hour meter? Or was that just the red ones?

Mine has the typical odometer (roll-style), like your car analog odometer, not the clock type. It appears to be original.
