IH Tiller 1 help needed please!!
4 Attachment(s)
Im in need of some measurements for a #1 tiller. I got the tiller from my dad who cut it up and modified it to a cat 0 3 point hitch for his john deere but abandoned the project for some reason. i want to try and get it back to almost original mounts so i can get it to work on my 106. My 106 has the sleeve hitch and spring assist. I do not have an original gear box and mount for the back of the tractor but if i can get some measurements and good pics i can fab something up. i also need some pics of the belt tensioner because its not there anymore (it was missing parts when my dad got it) as well as the 2 upper mounts. i think i can modify the gearbox thats on it for the back of the tractor but i need to know what size pullies they normally used. I did try to attach some pics of what im dealing with so hopefully they show up. Any help i can get would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

First off, welcome to OCC! :Welcome2:
That's going to be an undertaking..... Does your dad still have all the parts he removed? That would make it a lot easier. Your going to have to get a gearbox. You can't "fab" that up. I really think this project is far beyond just needing measurements. You'd be better off buying another tiller, and copying it. Or seeing if there is someone near you who would let you take pics and stuff of theirs. |
sadly no my dad dosnt have anything he cut off. there again the only thing he really cut was the bottom mount. the 2 upper mounts and the pully tensioner was allready gone. there is a freshly rebuilt 90 degree gearbox he mounted on it so he could use the rear pto (I also think he switched the 2 pullys between the tiller and gearbox). all i would have to do is make the mount for the back of the tractor and mount the gearbox to it. I know im not going to be able to get the mounts perfect to the point that it'll work on other cubs but s long as i can get it to work on my that'll be good enough. Considering the price of these things nowadays i would rather try to get what i got working

I'm not sure you fully understand how these work......
The gearbox that is present in the pics is not a CC gearbox. Judging by the size of the pulleys in the pic, the ratio is far different than the correct box. If you plan to use it and not the proper box, you are going to have to build all your own mounting system. None of the info we can give you about the correct one will help. You'll be on your own on this one. I'm not sure what you think a tiller costs.... but they aren't "unobtainable". Typical sale price is between $300 and $400. Gearboxes usually go for around $150 or so with the lower mount for the tractor. If you want this to work, your really going to have to find the right one. Or ask your dad to help. Looks like he's done some fabricating before.... :RollEyes2: Like I said... you really kind of have a mess there. :bigthink: |

Hey Dale i sent you a message. i know i gotta make the mounts for the tractor for the gearbox, ive been studying all the pics i can find for that and i got a few ideas on what to do there. as long as i can get the right diameter pullys for the gearbox it would work the same as the right one.

Ok now you got me wondering...does the IH gearbox change speed as well as direction or is it just a 90 degree gearbox? If theres a speed change then thats a whole nother can of worms
