What fluid ?

hello all:

I have a cc 1863 with 490 hrs. I'm going to change trans/hydro fluid. What type should I use and how much does it hold? If its Hy-tran where do you buy it?

Thanks in advance

The transmission in the 1863 was made by Hydro-Gear.

Per the Owners Manual, you need about 8 pints of Hy-Tran.

It is available from your local Cub Cadet or Case/IH Dealers.

My owners manual CCC 1641 calls for 7 quarts trans fluid?

I've read somewhere that Dextron III is suitable for use in the Cub hydro. Is that mis-information? I did top off the tranny with a few ounces of Dextron III and doesn't show, presently, any ill effects. :bigthink:

I'm planning on a fluid change and filter. A number of filters available are substitutes for a Cub filter. Any knowledge or filters anyone's used other than CCC? :bigthink:

My local Cub dealer makes me feel awful when I visit. Too often I've gotten the wrong part(s). Not me, the dealer is lacking something.

If your going to trumbauers, they are lacking. I only go there if I need something same day......and if I have a spare 45 minutes for them to d$&k around and find it. They want to sell you a new ferris or exmark, can't be bothered with old cubs.

Technical library- tractors, look under hydro oil filters, 2nd page...

Berwil you hit the nail right on the head!

I don't even have a stop sign en-route to T's. Went home with parts they swore were correct, not. Another trip to T's to get the right parts.

Easier to mail order than "trip" to T's.

Thanks Zippy! Saved the image. Not far from a NAPA store. Great!

Let's get this thread back on track to the original question(s).

:RedFace2:
I stand corrected. It is 7 quarts instead of 8 pints. Something screwy going on at the CC site for manuals. I typed in 1863 and it came up with a different model. I didn't catch that the first time.:bigthink:

Tis pricy! That's exactly why I asked 'bout Dextron III. Somewhere, sometime, I read (was told) Dextron III is compatible, OK to use in our Cubbies' hydros.

Guess if I have to, I'll spend my allowance on CC trans fluid.

My other tractors use gear lube, 80w90. A lot cheaper! :beerchug:

TSC Travelers or Wally World, think they call it Super tech.
