Cyclops PTO Difference
Is there a difference in pulley size between the newer model and older model 2182 PTO's? If so are the drive pulley's on the mower decks different sizes to accommodate for such? What I'm getting at is are decks such as the early Haban decks compared to late model Habans interchangeable?
Thanks |
There was a change to the pto pulley size starting in 1992 (Ser# 821,060 and above). The ones after that date are 6" and the ones built before then had the 4.6" pto. I also think (not 100%) that the ones built after 1992 are the yellow decks(Cub built) and the ones before are the white ones built by Haban. I would think that the yellow decks have a larger center pulley to keep the ratio the same. I have both decks but can't get to them right now.:bash2:

What Oak said. Yes you can interchange the pulley from a later Haban to the early Haban. This is the part # 756-3057 Pulley, Center

Since Z28's question was answered and I have a question of the same exact subject, I am going to jump in here with question and comments.
I have a later 2182 with a six inch PTO pulley. I have an earlier Haban deck with the smaller original spindle driven pulley. This original deck pulley and shaft have the usual keyway problems. I have a perfect replacement center spindle and pulley but the pulley is larger. I can operate the machine but the current belt is so short it brings the mule drive pulley back into the axle. I believe a belt a couple inches longer will put me in good shape. The tractor seems to have the power to spin the deck, cut grass, at the stepped up speed. Should I look for a correct size center spindle or buy a larger belt? Are these spindles available new or rebuilt? What say you, experts |

Get a longer belt and if you have a bad spindle I have a later Haban with the larger pulley that I'm going to part out so I can help you out. Edit: Just read that you have a good spindle and pulley so change it and replace the belt then you should be good to go. No need to over drive a Haban, you'll just beat up the bearings. |
PTO belts for the Habans.

Shoot. This explains a lot. I suppose that it is safe to assume the since the PTO and the Center pulley match up, then the mule carrier pulley were prolly to match as well. I had a white mule that had small pulleys and I burned one of them up. The yellow mules have the larger pulleys.

So this begs the question. Could running a older style deck with a newer larger pto gain greater blade tip speed and a better quality cut? Recognizing that knocking down tall wet grass may be more of a challenge than before.
