Unknown shaft

Over the weekend as I was putting in the 3 point hitch on my 1862 I noticed a splined shaft. This shaft was coming out of what looked like the rear diff housing but might have been the pump I'm not sure. Can anybody tell me what that shaft might have been used for on my tractor.

Without seeing any pictures, it maybe the provision for the rear Elec PTO.

All hydro pumps except the Hydro-Gear pumps have the shaft that goes out the rear. They were not used for anything on the GT tractors but on the SGT that is what the rear pto clutch shaft attaches to. That shaft spins the same rpm as the engine and some people have used it to power a hydraulic pump for front end loaders and other things.
