Cub 2072 Help
Hi everyone: I am new to this forum and cub cadet ownership. I bought a 2072 last October, it has a thrown rod and busted block. My question is about the block. There is a couple I have found but the have the model MV 20S and mine is M20S. Will the "MV" work? I also bought a 782 from a guy down the road that has had the engine replaced with a magnum 18. I have since gotten it going with a battery charge and fresh gas. I like the 782 but the 2072 has rear lift and I got several implements with it. I mow 2 acres and have a small garden. I think the 2072 is a better fit for my needs would like suggestions opinions. Thanks

Not sure about the blocks. Someone with more knowledge is most likely typing as I am. The mag from the 782 might be your best bet. If funds are available, Small Engine Warehouse has re-power kits for 1650.00. Hope some of this helps, Greg.
Welcome to Only Cub Cadets!!! Edit: Here is the engine. http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/...2072-Category/ |
That was my first thought when I noticed the 782 had a magnum I just hate to take apart a excellent running tractor I even got the original manual and paperwork where it was bought new

No the MV will not work, it is a vertical crankshaft motor. You need a horizontal.
In a 2072 a good choice for a repower would be a CH20 or bigger. Good luck finding a good running Mag 20 (original engine) they are getting scarce. Oh, and :Welcome2: |
I'm with Greg, not sure about the #s. I did a SEW repower and really like the 23 HP Vanguard. If you need it running now and $ is an issue, put the Mag 18 out of the 782 in it for now. Here is a link to my 2072 repower. I had to cut a little from the front heat shield and cut a piece of the grill for the exhaust but pretty easy swap. The kit is actually designed for a Cyclops tractor.

Find a cheap CC2185 and put the CH18 in it...Can pick them up pretty cheap and repower with an engine you can afford parts for these days....

You have three options: (A) Rebuild your present engine (B) Replace your M20 with a good used M20 from a Cub Cadet Tractor (C) Re-Power with a newer engine |
I want to keep the 782 running as there is nothing wrong with it currently mowing with it. Not in any hurry to get the 2072 going just itching to mess with it. My plan was to find a replacement block and rods and use my parts to transfer over to the new block. Anyone know a good source for a good used block or mower salvage yard around East Texas thanks

I have an 1872. same tractor except it has a kohler magnum 18Hp engine. yours is a magnum 20HP. They are esentually the same engine. Mine has more then enough power with the 18 in it. If you really want a 20 just swap out the jugs and pistons which give you more stoke/displacement. the blocks are the same.

New blocks on E-Bay are usually about $150
