Wheel Horse tractors

I may have a chance to pick up an older (70's I think with cat 0 3 point and a back blade) Wheel Horse for cheap but I have a couple questions first.

Anyone have any experience with these?
Are there any issues with them?
How do they compare with Cubs as far as toughness etc?

thanks

hey papaglide, i have 1995 wheelhorse and it is a great machine, built real tough, mine is belt driven with a kohler engine and the belt never slips, like when plowing and stuff, really a great machine it has high and low range with an 8 speed

Is it one of the very large garden tractors with a Kohler in it? Excellent tractor, pricey and rare parts.

Toro is the current custodian of any left over parts from the Wheel Horse days, and they and ebay are about your only hope on parts. Neighbor had one, broken front spindle, and it was quite a long search to find the correct part. But he eventually found one and now he has a great tractor.

Just talked to the owner. It has a kohler in it with a cat 0 hitch and hydro. He said it has 15" rims. He didn't know what model. I am hoping to go see it tomorrow.

Go for it...they are great little tractors!

I say go for it too....

I have a 1966 Wheel Horse 856, and a rare 603. They are good solid machines. The gear drive units like mine use a belt from the engine, and the clutch ads slack to the belt to make the pulleys slip..pretty simple design, but they tend to eat belts if your doing a lot of forward and back movement, like snow plowing.

The one in the pic looks like a GT14, excellent tractor...hydro, with hydraulic lift...nice!

Thanks Jeff. The GT 14 is what have come up with also. Would you say that it is comparable to Cubs? Also, it is belt drive. Is there anything to be afraid of with it being belt driven? Lastly, what cub do you think it would be most similiar to?

Thanks for your input, Jeff.:beerchug:

my friend is giving me his B100. Yes they are great tractors....but I wouldn't put them as equals to the cub. The main difference is aside from the originals, the geared cubs are a true direct drive with a dry clutch. There is no equal.
But again, they are very good machines, solid dependable, with the same horsepower ratings as the cubs.

easton i have the match to the b100. i have a little b80. there garden tractors but not near the muscle or strength of a cub cadet. i would take wheel horse over j*** d**** i think

I gather that my 169 would eat up a GT-14. BUT the Wheel Horse is a neat looking tractor...with a cat 0 3 point!!:beerchug:
