Belt slippage

Pardon me if this has been :beatdeadhorse:

Running the 147 w/ 48" mowing deck yesterday and the mower kept slowing down in the thick stuff. No heavy change in engine speed. The PTO has been rebuilt 3 years ago. (still using the OEM mechanical one) I suspect the drive belt from engine to mower is slipping. It has a cheap green belt on it that was on it when I bought it. Do these tend to slip more from the drive belt or from the mower/spindle belt?

Thanks

Did you double check to see the 'V' was notched in the pulleys all the way thru? that got me the other day and I had similar symptoms. I had a slight twist in the belt.

Maybe you need to add some more tension to the adjuster to compensate for worn and/or belt stretch?

Is your mule drive set to apply enough tension?

I just took care of this issue on my dads 147. If your belt is the right length ( not rubbing the PTO rockshaft etc. and its putting tension on the spring) take it to NAPA and ask for a deep V belt that length, it should cure any slipping and it will keep the belt from rolling over in the pulleys.

My mule drive is stupid. It doesn't have a spring. It has both pulleys welded and wing nut adjusters on the front. I'm thinking I have a POS belt that is too long and too narrow.

The belt chart on this site says to use a 3/8 belt for this application, but last time I went to Napa they didn't have what length I needed in 3/8 but they did in 1/2. I bought the 1/2, and it actually seems to work better than what I had before.

I have the CC 760 & I need to have the blades going then go in slow to attack the grass. If I run the blades then go right in, the blades slow down alot but not as bad as when I run it & go into the grass slow. It's as if the belt is slipping.
I just ordered a new drive belt. It calls for a 72 1/2 inch v notch belt, I just ordered a 72 inch. Let's see if that fixes the problem.
Anyone else have any issues or fixes for the CC 760?
