Gear shift repair
 

I'm redoing a 124 with a whole bunch of options and really the only thing I have to worry about now is the sloppy gear shifter. I HAVE referred to and read through the 3 parts that were written by Merk, and I just don't have the skill to do it and I don't want to butcher it.

This is going to sound kinda sad but, I'm looking for someone to fix my gear shifter I have no idea how much it will cost. :Huh:

The cup on my 104 shift handle broke 35 years ago. I took the handle to a welding shop and the guy brazed the broken cup back on the handle.

He charged me $4.

Post up a picture of the gear shift. I can probably fix it.

What do you mean? Were the weld broke? I can take as many pictures as you want

Yes, where it broke.

I'm pretty sure I can fix it but want pictures to make sure. Have you priced another shifter? I'd be more than happy to fix it for you but don't want to waste your money on repair if it's a part than be replaced inexpensively.

I'll take it apart here and take some pictures. And yes I have priced out another gear shifter and it is far cheaper to get it repaired than it is to get a new one. I'll be back with pictures :beerchug:

These things are not all that difficult to fix. The ball broke on my 71. Lined it back up and welded it on the inside then took a washer and notched it to fit over the ridges on the inside of the ball and welded that to the ball and the lever so that it is now connected in 2 places. Someone like Jeff with a TIG welder could make it look like a factory job. I was having trouble getting the MIG gun inside the ball enough to do a decent job. Not pretty but if it breaks something more important is coming with it.
