42 inch mower deck for a IH Cub Cadet 100

I purchased a IH Cub Cadet 100 that has a 42 inch pin on mower deck. The mower does not have a baffles in it. Cub Cadet parts look up shows a baffle for the 42 inch deck.....unfortunately the part NLA.

I have two 38 inch mower decks that have a partial baffle in them. Both have the tip of the mower blade going over the top/bottom of the baffle. Anyone have a picture they could post?
Anyone tried to use a 42 inch mower deck without the baffle?
My Son needs a mower for his 2 acre yard. Either he will use the 100 or the Simplicity that I use to mow my yard.

Thanks for any help.

I'd give it a shot as it is and see how it cuts. You can always fab up some new baffles later if it doesn't work.

It will still cut. I've had some with baffles that cut worse then the ones without...keep the blades in good shape it should do fine. Cut the grass more frequently there shouldn't be a issue. The only time I've seen it really matter is in tall grass

Sorry Merk, no pictures, the other guys are right, it will mow ok but tall grass will want to clog and leave lumps of cut grass in the yard.

On a side note, I don't understand the baffles being where they are, they should be out just past the ends of the blades and should come down to the bottom of the blade or below. Just my opinion. Some day I will put a deck together that way and find out.

My plan is to try it without baffle set up. My yard needs mowed if it ever quits raining.

Making a baffle plate should be easy to do.

Same here Sam. Time to do some R&D (research and development).

The right one looks like my 38 inch deck.

ive never noticed a difference in cut between a deck with baffles and one without.

My 48" pin on deck no longer has its baffle. The only difference I ever noticed is the cut grass seems to lay or be distributed the path of the deck rather than channeled out of the chute. If you are not vain about your grass and just want it cut and not manicured, then I don't think that you will have any issues.
