1641 PTO switch ?

I was just about finished mowing today with my 1641 and the pto shut off. I flipped the switch up and the pto started back up but when I let go of the switch and it returned to the center position the pto shut off again. This happened a few times and I had to hold the switch up to finish cut the little bit of grass I had left.

So I am thinking that the switch went bad. Just wondering if there is anything else I should check before I order a new switch? Any suggestions?

As a suggestion, I would check the (A) Seat Switch (w/ BLK & PUR Wires) and then (B) the Reverse Relay before I would jump to the assumption that the PTO switch is bad.

Here is a typical PTO circuit for your tractor

Roland,

There was not a seat switch on this tractor when I got it. Also the pto will stay on in reverse. Maybe they are both jumpered? Where exactly is the reverse relay?

Reverse relay is on the left side of the battery near the solenoid.

I can't say for sure, cause I don't own that new of a model. BUT.....if CCC was true to form, I would look on the LH side of the pedestal.

Thank you guys,

I will have to check these two things out tomorrow.

Thank you for the help. I was able to get this sorted out this morning.

I did not realize that there was 2 seat switches under the spring plate under the seat. Once I found them I saw one of them was not in the correct position and the PO had shoved some pieces of thick rubber up there to keep, the switch pressed down.

I removed the switches and found that the one had the tabs busted busted off that hold it in place. I relocated the switches on top of the seat pan where they were easier to get at. For now I wire tied a small piece of plastic to the top of the switches to keep them pressed down. If I run into this trouble again I may just cut the switches off and jump the wires together and eliminate them permenently.

Again, thanks for the tips. You guys saved me about 45 bucks for a new pto switch.

LALALALALALA we can't hear you. At least that's what Roland will tell the OCC legal team. :biggrin2:

Glad you were able to troubleshoot it instead of throwing parts and money at it. :beerchug:

LOL..........It's his tractor and he can wire the way he wants.

It's like the Miranda Statement.........Ya just have to say it to cover your butt.
