I am just wondering if all K301 engines are the same. I have an old Jacobson Chief garden tractor that i bought a couple months ago and its got a good running K301, good S/G, looks like same voltage regulator thats on my cub. Basically I picked it up thinking all the parts would work on my 104. And thinking about building back blade. Any input is appreciated and welcomed. What every ones thoughts on back blade vs front blade?

no there not all the same, just about every tractor manufacturer had its own mounting bolt pattern and crankshaft diameter/length. basically if it didn't come out of a cub it will take a lot of work to put it in a cub.

If the crank is right, you could swap oil pans to mount it. Just a thought. :bigthink: Do you have the original engine?

What are your plans for the blade? Dirt or snow?

Yes i have the original engine. I run it every day. Was just looking into the far future (i hope) back up plan incase something terrible happens in the middle of a project. I also have k241 that came off the 104. Are those pans interchangeable? Was thinking of using BB for dirt/gravel stone, what ever?

There were other small differences, like position of dipsticks, heatshields, etc.....but nothing that could not be changed.

The 301 on my 104 actually has 2 dipsticks the long one and a short one on side by points cover. Will pan off 241 work on 301? Cranks do look the same will measure it and see for sure.

Not 100% sure but I believe Jacobsen used wide base Kohler engines in their machines.

The pan cannot be used from a 241 due to the long dipper on the crank on the k301.You would need a deep sump one.Besides like the others said if it is not cub specific it will not work.

Thanks every one. Maybe ill get the old jacobsen runnin this weekend and try to sell it to someone for plow tractor this fall. And just look around for a back up engine for my 104. The k241 came to me with a knock and as my luck would have it i started it up to move it around back side of my house and when i shut it off, the rod broke. Maybe i will rebuild that one this winter. So the 104 will be all original again.
