My 782 finally moves
 

I got my 782 hydro fixed. I tore it down and put a new part in it and it works good so far. I don't know what the part is called, but heck, I'm a rookie.
I had to put a picture of my old 982 on here too. I'm sorry I traded it off too.
I should have kept it and finished up. I was just getting too much tied up in it and there was a lot left to do.
Anyway I appreciate the help. This is a great website.

Glad you got it going.

I hate to be the "Debbie downer" but I can see the wear on the slipper pads, and it's bad. The ring that you replaced holds them tight to the swashplate. It may be working now, but it will be weak and likely won't last long. Should have just replaced the pump with a good used one.


That was a super nice 982. Should have kept it. Can't buy a new one for any amount that it takes to rebuild one.

I did find a good used pump and I'm waiting for the guy to take it out of another 782 cast iron rear end. In the mean time I got the part to get mine going, so I decided to go ahead and see what happens. It's not that big of a deal to change one out. I'm paying $125 for the used pump and he'll stand behind it. I don't know if that's high or not, but they're not that easy to find.

Not that easy to find? They sell 10 a week on ebay. I see them all the time.....

I'd run the repaired pump as long as it's working. sounds like you have a spare on the way!

I've never seen that type of failure. Glad you got it fixed. Not sure what Jon is seeing that is a problem on the slippers, they look OK to me. It will probably only last another 20 years or so.

I couldn't argue one way or the other. That was my first time inside one of these things. I also have a 50" deck that came with it. I'm going to clean it up and see if I'm missing anything to hook it up. I'd like to mow a little bit with it and see if it's going to hold up for awhile.

The slippers look too be not flat and one appears to have a cut/slice in it.
---not the best picture, like I said early on, prolly towed at a speed greater or longer than recommended will cause the slipper retainer failure
or the slippers to come off the pistons.
If it works ok,enjoy it, if develops a problem, you will have a spare to install.
I would change at least the filter, after some hours of operation.
As it will pick up the contaminants from the broken retainer plate and others.
That is the nice thing about a suction filter.
