46GT vs. 44C on 1811

I have the opportunity to buy a 46GT deck at what seems to be a reasonable price. Would this be an upgrade over the 44C in terms of cut quality? I get uncut strips of grass with the 44c, especially in turns. Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 46GT may fit but you won't be able to turn all the way. The machine it would have come off of has swept forward front axles giving more clearance for the deck. Also, when/if you do get it fit under your 1811 it won't life very high at all. Good luck with whatever you decide! :beerchug:

As far as a poor cut quality with the 44C, are you blades sharpened correctly? Maybe you're going too fast? Are you running your engine at WOT? All can greatly effect cut quality.

Yep, sharp blades, engine at WOT. May be going too fast, but I do slow down considerably on the corners.

I have an 1810 with 46 GT deck. I can't comment on fit or lift except it was on the tractor when I got it with a bad engine.

I have run several 46 GT decks on my Cyclops. They all cut really good in a straight line and if you turned sharp, they'd streak. They will also windrow the clippings.

I converted all my Cyclops over to the 48" & 54' mowers and am very satisfied with the appearance improvement in cutting.

Interesting. Do you know if they had the correct blades on them? I just put new blades on the 46GT I've been fixing and there's only about 1/16" space between the center blade and side blades, they're so close it's kind of scary. Last thing I would expect it to do is streak.

I've got a 50" deck that the blades actually hit each other that is what I call close, yep it leaves streaks in corners, just the nature of the beasts.
So I just don't mow around corners, just do a loop @ each right or left turn.
--------works for me.:bigthink:

Dad's 1811 came with a 46GT but truthfully I don't really see anything in cut quality that would make me spend money to get one vs. a 44a/c. The 54" GT deck on the other hand is a really good deck but a tight fit on the older machines.

Mike McKown 08-27-2015 07:39 PM

To make sure we're talking the same deck. This 46" deck is the same deck as used on the Cyclops and it's listed as an option for 1810. AFAIK, that is the 46GT. If not, ignore what I've said.

Yes, it had the right blades. It also had the 4" drive pulley and I put this deck on a 1641 for a short time with the 6" clutch. 50% overdrive. It howled pretty good but I didn't see any difference in the cut with the right pulley.

I had an 1810 (converted to 1811) that came with a 46GT deck. I don't recall any streaks when turning but I suppose it matters how fast you're going in the turn etc...

Thanks for the input. I'm going to hang on to my 44C for now and keep an eye out for a 48GT or 54GT someday.
