CC Model 70 restoration
 

:bigthink:I'm restoring a 63 model 70 CC tractor. I had parts sand blasted and finally got the time to paint them. The frame, rear, grill and front axle have all be painted. Pictures to follow when I download from camera.

Today I painted the seat, hood and wheels what's called 901 white. The following color codes for this tractor are:

901 White --- PPG # 8665
483 Yellow -- PPG #81518

The PPG 81518 (federal yellow) looks correct, but the 901 white appears to have a white base with creamy yellow and olive under-tones ! Is this correct ? Or perhaps the ones I'm seeing on the net used a different white

You have correct white. Look at my topic in the lower left corner(project Uncle Dick) of my response. There are pictures of my painted 70 in that topic.

Thanks Merk. Prior to starting this project, I read your thread about 3 times. Excellent job.
Ok now that I know the paint color is correct, I can keep going. My next step is the engine and associated tin.
Attached are two pics. The first is the frame, grill, differential, front axle and a few steering linkages is my friends paint booth. Since he let me use his booth, I had to take advantage of this. The second pic is all the 901 white parts prior to painting.
The primer which I used is made by Awlgrip and called 545. It is a marine grade epoxy used for boats. I had some left from an old job, so I figured it was good enough for a tractor.

Sounds like the correct paint to me.

It sounds right to me. That 901 white is pretty creamy. A lot of them I see are painted incorrectly with 902 or 935.

:biggrin2:Ok, got some more parts painted yesterday. Again, thanks for the paint code confirmation, for I thought I'd have to repaint these again. Since I'm trying to restore the old girl with a 50 make-over, there's a strong interest to stay original. Must have looked at to many internet 70 pic's so the image I had was a true white color.
An interesting side note is that when the guy at PPG pulled up the 901 white paint code, it showed it was applicable for three different vehicles. Not sure if the color mixing was different.
Ok, here the pic's to date as requested.
The problem with painting outside where I live is the bugs and other things flying in the air. Yep they landed on the hood and I tried a few tricks but it didn't work. After I painted it, I moved it into the garage. In the attached pic's, you'll notice a set of rear rims and two front rims with tires attached. I plan on putting all new tires on but at the moment that option is not available. So I took a pair of rims of a broken 126 frame and painted them. They will be temporary. The original rims are in the garage and need to be sand blasted. The rears are the permanent rims and came out looking good.

Got all the stuff primed......

The seat got painted upside down yesterday due to the way it hung. I could have done this one side at a time, but didn't want to mix another batch of paint just for the bottom. Turned out pretty good.

Tomorrow is top coat time, but tonight is for sanding all parts.

Merc, when you painted the engine on your tractor, did you have any paint discoloration from heat after using the tractor for some time ?

The only paint discoloration I have is around the exhaust. The tractor was restored 6 years ago and has around 150 to 175 hours on it.
