Broken shaft, slide out and replace?
 

Hey guys, just wanted to verify a fix with you. Pull my deck off my 2284 last week and found that the shaft in red in the pic below is broken where I circled. Is this shaft as easy as to slide out and slide the new one in or am I going to run into something else I'm not ready for? Thanks guys :beerchug:

Make sure the tension is off the springs first, and as long as the shaft isn't seized on one of the pulley arms, it will slide out and back in. :beerchug:

If it ain't been out in a while, it may require some whacking with a BFH. Make sure a PO hasn't welded it in.

What Jon said, otherwise plan on power blaster, heat and a BFH, ask me how I know. :biggrin2:

Not for sure because it has been a while since I replaced one, but I think it went a lot faster for me when I removed one of my front tires, or both of them. It is not necessary, but I think it will speed up the process.

Turning the steering wheel one way or another will achieve the same result.

BTW guys, got this straightened out. It turns out upon closer inspection that the shaft did not break but rather the snap ring holding it in place popped off or broke. Slid the shaft back in place, new snap ring, and violla! Back in business. Thanks for the help guys :beerchug:

Or take the mule drive/undercarriage off :biggrin2:
